What Happened Before the Launch?
This is an explanation for the confusion that happened right before launch. Feel free to skip this part if you missed the rapid updates that came as a result.
The initial plan was to make use of Steam's language depots for multi-language support, but we ran into an unexpected issue: The game would download fine on Red's computer, but on our end the files were completely missing.
We tried out several solutions to no avail, so we eventually decided to package both Chinese and English versions together and use a launcher to let the user decide which language they'd like.
This is why the game was completely borked for a bit, but by the time this announcement comes out everything should be working fine. We're very sorry for the confusion!
When you first start the game, there should now be a popup that asks you which language you would like to play in. Simply select your desired locale and press play.
It will remember your chosen option and automatically start the game in that locale on subsequent launches. If you would like to swap locale, start the game while holding down "shift" and the popup should show again.
Since both versions of the game are packaged together now, we had to make a script to have both versions share the same Save folder.
Your save files should be carried over by default, but if you find them missing, go to right click the game in your library and navigate to Manage > Browse Local Files
If you see a "saves" folder, move everything in there over to the folder called "Save" (or create it if it does not exist) in the same location.
If you get an error when saving, check your local files and see if there is a folder called "Save". If not, create a folder called "Save" and it should allow you to save normally.
When starting the game, you may get an error for a missing font (未找到默认字体). We're looking into ways to fix this (it's almost certainly a mojibake issue) but for now, if the text shows up normally when you start a new game (there's a screen specifically for verifying this on a new game), this error is safe to ignore and has not caused any issues in our playtest.
While we haven't received any reports of this error causing any issues in gameplay, if it is causing you to be unable to play the game, you can change your system locale to Chinese, enable Unicode UTF-8 support in your system locale settings, or run the game through Locale Emulator.
Below are a few notable changes this release adds into the game. There are, of course, many other minor changes that aren't worth listing out here but should provide a smoother gameplay experience overall.
This is a feature that has been heavily requested and one we'd like to call special attention to. One of the most common complaints the game gets is that the battle text speed flies by way too fast, so now you are able to freely adjust it in the settings.
By default, the English version uses 50% of the game's original speed, but if you would like to adjust this value, the setting can be found by opening the menu and navigating to System > Battle Text Speed.
It used to be that when you wanted to upgrade a weapon, it had to be in your inventory. This means that if you wanted to upgrade your currently equipped weapon, you would have to unequip it first.
This is now no longer the case and you can directly upgrade a weapon even if it is currently equipped.
This is exclusive to the English version, but skill cooldowns now display on the skill names themselves rather than on the description. This change is due to text descriptions not having the space to accommodate for the cooldown indicator, but you can now tell what all your cooldowns are at a glance.
Enjoy the game, and have a very belated happy Halloween!
